Choosing a Door for Your Corner Shower

Corner showers are becoming a very popular way to install a shower unit in your bathroom. Why? First of all, it is a way to utilize the space available as efficiently as possible. Secondly, if done right, it is an elegant, stylish, and comfortable solution. One of the choices, you will have to make, concerns corner shower doors.

Corner Shower Basics

A typical corner shower unit consists of a base, an enclosure, and a door. The base will determine the shape and size of the shower. It connects to the drain and the enclosure. The enclosure is the barrier that prevents water from spilling out in the bathroom. Finally, we have the shower door. Shower doors are usually chosen to match the style of the enclosure. The options available will depend partly on the shape and size of the shower unit and your bathroom.

Pivot Doors

A pivot door is attached to the frame of the shower, at the top and at the bottom. It opens outwards, and is similar to a standard door in your home. It is a classical design. However, such a shower door requires more space in the bathroom, than other options available, thus it nullifies, partly, the space efficiency of the unit. For this reason, pivot doors are typically used in larger master bathrooms.

Sliding Doors

Sliding doors can be opened from either side and saves space in the bathroom. However, it requires additional width of the shower enclosure. Therefore, they are often used in rectangular corner showers.

Bi-Fold Doors

The bi-fold shower door can be characterized as a hybrid between pivot doors and sliding doors. Able to fold in on itself, bi-fold doors doesn’t require the same shower width as sliding doors, and it requires less space outside of the shower unit than pivot doors. Therefore, for many, it offers an attractive compromise.

What Designs Are Available?

As mentioned in the beginning, the design of the door is usually chosen to mimick that of the enclosure. You can, then, find the same design options as with shower enclosures, meaning, as examples, different degrees of transparency and optional textures of the surface.

Choosing the right shower door will do wonders for the appearance and functionality of, not only your shower unit, but also your bathroom.
