Applying Garage Floor Epoxy

Garage floor epoxy can do wonderful things for both the way the floor looks and the way that it performs. Epoxy is made to be both chemical and stain resistant. They are very easy to clean. They also have a texture that makes traction possible even in the middle of winter when the tires are coated with snow. Epoxy is a very durable material that can do wonder for a garage floor.

Applying Epoxy is not that difficult of a process. Overall the application itself is very easy if the proper preparation steps are taken. For epoxy to adhere to the floor it needs to be clean, level, and slightly rough. The concrete has to be at leas 60 days old and it can not be sealed. If the floor was sealed it will need to be removed with stripping chemicals. If your floor meets all of the above listed requirements it will need to be cleaned and etched. The etching turns the floor in to a rough surface that the epoxy will adhere to better. When the floor has been thoroughly cleaned and etched and all of the cracks and holes have been filled it is ready for the epoxy to go down.

This process has to be completed in two hours so everything has to be planned out before starting. The temperature has to be between 50 and 80 degrees otherwise the coat can bubble or even peel. First mix the epoxy and harder and begin applying it. You should start in one of the back corners and work from the back to the front. After the floor has been coated it will have to dry for at least 12 hours. A day is preferable. After it has dried another coat can be applied. When the epoxy has been applied it will have to cure for at least three days before any cars can be drove on it.

Putting a coat of epoxy over your garage floor will make it last years longer and it will make it be smoother and look nicer. The results from epoxy are more than worth the cost. For more information about garage flooring and many other types of flooring check out floor-web.com.
